Mtsheta and the Jvari Monastery

View over Mtsheta from the Jvari Monastery
Ani took us out to the first capital of Georgia, Mtsheta, and the Jvari Monastery. Mtsheta is one of the longest inhabited cities in the world- having been settled in 3000 BC. The monastery is from the 400s. Here are a few more photos. The photo barrage should end here until next week. We will do a few things about town, but I'll resist sending more until next week...
Monastery in Mtsheta
Tryptich of Mary Jesus and ?? carved into the side of the church
Very Christian cow over the door
Lunch at a restaurant outside along the river

Part of the meal- tomatoes and cucumbers, cheese, beans and walnuts, corn bread... and taragon flavored soda. I did not get the garlic chicken- it came out a bit later.
